Fiber Engineer - Small Cell

Job Description

TekCom Resources is seeking an experienced Small Cell Fiber Engineer to support the design, engineering, and deployment of small cell fiber and power infrastructure throughout Southern California. This role requires deep expertise in fiber engineering, AC/DC power systems, and utility coordination, with a strong working knowledge of California GO95 regulations. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience coordinating with SDG&E, PG&E, SCE, and municipal utilities to deliver compliant, constructible, and reliable small cell solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and engineer fiber routes, laterals, and connectivity supporting small cell nodes.
  • Develop fiber splice plans, termination details, and network schematics.
  • Produce and review engineering drawings and construction packages for OSP fiber deployments.
  • Support both ISP and OSP fiber design related to small cell infrastructure.
  • Engineer AC and DC power solutions for small cell equipment, including load calculations.
  • Design and review power one-lines, grounding, bonding, and disconnect requirements.
  • Coordinate power readiness for poles, streetlights, traffic signals, and utility-owned assets.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, and GO95 power and safety standards.
  • Coordinate directly with SDG&E, PG&E, SCE, and local municipal utilities.
  • Support utility applications, power service requests, meter installs, and joint-use reviews.
  • Ensure small cell designs comply with California GO95 clearance, separation, and safety rules.
  • Address utility comments, redesigns, and constructability concerns.
  • Conduct site walks and field validations for fiber and power feasibility.
  • Provide engineering support during construction and installation phases.
  • Resolve field issues related to utility conflicts, power availability, and fiber routing.
  • Review redlines and approve as-built documentation.
  • Create and maintain detailed engineering deliverables.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in engineering and asset management systems.
  • Work closely with RF engineering, construction, permitting, and project management teams.
  • Participate in deployment planning meetings and provide technical guidance.
  • Support schedule adherence by proactively identifying and mitigating engineering risks.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in small cell, fiber, or wireless infrastructure engineering.
  • Strong experience with fiber optic OSP design for small cell deployments.
  • Hands-on knowledge of AC/DC power systems for telecom equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with California utilities (SDG&E, PG&E, SCE, or similar).
  • Solid understanding and practical application of GO95 regulations.
  • Familiarity with NEC and NESC standards.
  • Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings and construction documents.
  • Experience supporting construction and resolving field-related issues.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, GIS, or similar design tools.
